December 15th, Fri – Potluck & White Elephant Gift Exchange Theme: Countdown to Christmas
We are advertising this somewhat early as there have been many questions circulating about it. There will be a signup (see contact info below) for certain items this time as well (similar to Pre-Thanksgiving) to ensure that some basics are brought; the stake will reimburse those who volunteer to cook, slice, and bring the ham. Otherwise, please bring your favorite entrée, side dish, dessert, and/or game to share. You can be creative and don’t feel constrained; all Word of Wisdom-appropriate food is welcome. A toaster will be provided for bagels, bread, etc. 6:55 PM spiritual message, Potluck ~7:00, Activities ~8:00-10:30±. Several activities like board/card/video games, socializing, and so forth can happen. There will be a video game system to play with many classic NES/SNES games and an N64/GameCube may be brought also. All stakes and all single adults welcome. Supervised children, teens, and guests are welcome to this family-friendly event. No potluck dish? Show up anyway; we always have plenty of food and everyone leaves stuffed and with lots of leftovers. Casual dress. Location: Fountain Stake Center, 1310 Aeroplaza Drive. CSC Contact: Aaron Ricks (719) 433-6650 firstname.lastname@example.org. Sponsor: Fountain Stake.
Countdown to Christmas Signup
Other items confirmed as being brought: (formerly) frozen pizza, candy, sweet potato casserole
Some other recommended items: mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, various pies, etc. Let us know what you plan on bringing and I can add it to the website and future emails.
White Elephant Gift Exchange
Please bring an inexpensive wrapped gift (up to $5 in value) to share after the meal (~9 pm); some spare gifts might be brought just in case, so don't let that be a deterrent. Depending on the preferences of the group and time constraints, these will be the tentative rules of the exchange:
• Everyone will draw a number to determine initial order.
• The first person will select and open/reveal a gift.
• The next person may choose to steal a prior person’s gift or may select a different one to open; if a gift is stolen, the victim may immediately steal a different gift or select another to open.
• A person may be stolen from only twice, after which his or her steal/reveal is final (though individuals may feel free to trade after the exchange activity).
• We will continue until all gifts are finalized.
Feel free to wear a sweater, ugly or otherwise!
Note: There might be a potluck in January but at a different location due to a scheduling conflict; details forthcoming. Aside from such scheduling conflicts, this potluck occurs regularly on the third Friday each month.
Have you ideas for additional board/party games, films, or other activities that you would like to see? Please send Aaron an email or text.
